Flip many coins at once
A fair coin, every time
Each flip uses your browser's cryptographic random number generator, so heads and tails each have exactly a 50% chance. Past flips have no effect on the next one: after five heads in a row, the next flip is still 50/50.
Fun facts about coin flips
- Streaks happen more than you'd think. In 100 flips, a run of 6 or more of the same side is more likely than not.
- Results even out slowly. Flip 10 coins and getting 7 heads is common. Flip 10,000 and you'll almost always land between 49% and 51%. Try the "flip many" box to see it.
- Real coins aren't quite perfect. Studies suggest a hand-tossed coin lands on the side it started on slightly more than half the time. This virtual coin doesn't have that bias.
When to flip a coin
Use it to settle a tie, decide who goes first, make a yes-or-no decision, or break decision paralysis. If you feel disappointed by the result, that tells you what you really wanted.
Frequently asked questions
What are the odds of getting heads 3 times in a row?
1 in 8 (12.5%). Each flip is 1 in 2, so three in a row is ½ × ½ × ½.
Can I flip for more than two options?
Use the dice roller for up to six options, or spin the wheel for any list.
